Martin Steady - Managing Director
Martin took over as MD of the company just over ten years ago, having already spent nearly thirty years in publishing. When not working ... cycling, walking, socialising and holidays (obviously!) take up most of his time.  He is a cat lover but is sadly 'between cats' at the moment…

Alan Orbell - Publishing Director/Managing Editor
Alan launched BMI's flagship title, Selling Long Haul, in 1990 and has been closely involved with all the company's publishing and website developments since then. Before that he worked on a number of other travel publications which included a short stint based in the Big Apple. Leisure pursuits focus on music - especially jazz and the classics - skiing, cycling, walking, reading and growing organic veg!

Sales
David Clare - Publisher
Dave joined BMI in July 1998. He mainly works on The Business Travel Magazine, Selling Long Haul and various destination guides. When not at work he can usually be found on the golf course or at home with his wife and two young children. For his sins he is also the manager of his son’s football team and harbours hopes of a blossoming career on the senior's golf tour (although not for a few more years yet!).

Kirsty Hicks - Conference & Events Manager
Kirsty has worked for BMI since 1993 and has a BA Hons in publishing (2005) from the University of the Arts, London. She has worked on different BMI magazines and websites and in 2006 launched The Business Travel Conference as the annual event in association with The Business Travel Magazine. Whilst building on the success of the first year conference with TBTC’08 she also helps out on the new Worldwide series of magazines BMI has recently launched. Interested in anything sport related she currently enjoys running, ice-skating and surfing in North Devon and annually in the warms waters of Costa Rica.

Sally Oakey - Associate Director
Sally joined BMI Publications Ltd in May 2003 having worked in publishing for the previous 10 years.  She has headed up the online training division,Travel Uni since its conception in Autumn 2003.  Sally regularly visits Zimbabwe and Mozambique.  Her dream is to set up a diving and deep sea fishing business in Mozambique before she is too old to enjoy it!  Married with 2 children, her interests include golf, rugby and reading anything to do with the 18th Dynasty in Ancient Egypt.

Sally Parker - Publisher
Sally has been at BMI for over 12 years mainly working on Selling Long Haul and various destination guides. Outside work she is usually covered in mud doing either Business Military Fitness (being shouted at and made to do burpees by ex-army instructors), cross country running or digging her vegetable patch.

Jo Preocanin - Travel Uni Co-ordinator
Jo joined BMI two and a half years ago as sales administrator for our busy sales team but now assists with the day to day running of Travel Uni. When not working she can usually be found either playing netball, supporting rugby or socialising with friends and family.

Samantha Stagg - Senior Sales Executive
Samantha has been with BMI for over 10 years.  She works on Selling Long Haul magazine along with other destination guides and supplements.  'I enjoy working in the travel industry and selling on a travel publication means I am forever dreaming of where my next holiday will be'   In her spare time she enjoys going to the gym, spending time with her boyfriend, family and friends and watching reality TV - yes Big Brother!!

Steve Thompson - Senior Advertisement Manager
Steve has been interested in travelling for as long as he can remember. He has visited over 90 countries in his time, with Africa being his favourite continent. When the opportunity came along to sell for a travel publication and talk to people about travelling all day, it was a dream come true. He has been with BMI since December 2005.

Sue Williams - Associate Publisher
Sue trained as a textile designer, with a BA from Winchester School of Art and started her working life designing fabrics that were sold all over the world. Helping clients promote their ranges, she moved into graphic design and became more and more involved in advertising.  Since then she have worked on various rag trade titles, and then into consumer titles, helping FHM under their new ownership of Emap, then onto the launch of Maxim with Dennis Publishing.  She is now part of a small but very friendly team working as Associate Publisher on Onboard  Hospitality and Advertising Manager on FlyBe Uncovered.

Editorial
Jo Austin - Group Editor
Jo ran her own travel publishing company in London for 15 years before joining the BMI editorial team. She set up ABTA News and launched a hugely popular travel database on Prestel and ITV’s Oracle.  She has travelled Africa and Australia extensively and enjoys diving, skiing and surfing. If she wasn’t living in Sussex she would take a pair of binoculars and pitch a permanent tent on a bend of the Zambezi above Victoria Falls.

Julie Baxter - Journalist
Julie trained as a local newspaper journalist, spent five years working for Travel Weekly and has since specialised in writing for the travel trade press.  She works as a senior journalist across the range of BMI titles and when not at her desk, she is masterminding her next trip or battling to stay sane with her three teenage daughters.

Steve Hartridge - Editor
Steve joined BMI in February 2003. Previously he was group editor at Outbound Publishing, overseeing a stable of magazines and newspapers aimed at those emigrating or buying property overseas. After receiving his MA in the USA, he worked on local newspapers in both the UK and the other side of the Atlantic before overseeing the editorial and production for a company that produced pocket-sized destination guides. He has had a lifetime love-hate affair with the game of golf and Brighton and Hove Albion FC.

Andy Hoskins - Deputy Editor
Andy was lured in to journalism by the prospect of life-long travel and champagne breakfasts, but quickly realised all that glitters is not gold. He is Deputy Editor of The Business Travel Magazine, but also writes regularly for Selling Long Haul and Short Breaks & Holidays. Andy has travelled extensively in Asia and South America, where his illustrious career playing for Deportivo Urubamba in Peru's Sacred Valley football league was disappointingly cut short by a dodgy visa.

He studied at the University of the Arts of London (Chelsea) and the University of Portsmouth where he also enjoyed the sport of rowing. She loves live gigs and food. Zarina also photographs and podcasts her travels online.

Emma Norton - Designer
Emma left her flock of sheep in little New Zealand and landed in the big smoke of East Croydon to take up a 6 month contract at BMI ...a year and a half later she's still here. Why would someone want to leave a job that combines travel and design in one hit?!?!  The only trouble is after looking at beautiful images all day her list of places to visit in the world is forever growing! - research purposes only of course!

Michelle Penn - Designer
Michelle has worked for BMI for 11 years. Starting with a 6 months contract in Credit control, she then moved over to production. But that wasn't enough and her true passion was design. Having qualified at college years ago, she has been in design for 7 years. She enjoys working accross all publications and destination guides. Michelle also enjoys lots of sports and family life.
